Antique Hand Crafted Chinese 8 String Mandolin Instrument VERY OLD ORNATE

Description

I've done a ton of research on this unusual instrument but I have see absolutely nothing like it so therefore this description will be lacking unfortunately.
The total length is 26" long. The head is 4 1/2", the neck isis 9" from the saddle to the last fret.
The moon and star carving in the middle along with the top part of the body is very thin. It looks like someone put a drop of resin or glue on both side of the star seen in picture #2.
There is a spot of white clay on the bottom that I'm guessing was put there to help it stand up for display? I push on it and it feels solid like there is wood under it and not a hole.
There is also a small hole on the back side.
Looking at the tuning keys with a magnifying glass, they appear to be wood as well.
Being sold as is for restoration or whatever you want.
