Brio waterways are the coolest toys ever. They're like train sets with canals instead of tracks. Play with trains during the winter and canals during the summer!
This set has been used in my office for the last ~21 years as an interviewing tool. Yes, you read that right. When we have applicants, we dump Panama out on the floor and tell them to assemble it. Some jump right in and get it done. Others pout and whine - the ones that don't look at the directions on the side of the box. Some hurl profanities and walk out. The people we want to hire say things like, "Oh, cool, this looks fun"  and they put it together.
If you don't need to sort and sift job applicants, maybe you can give it to your child instead.
